My good friend Amy Lombard recently launched a Kickstarter to get the work from her series "Happy Inside" printed in book form. The book, which will consist of 50 to 60 images, explores people interacting with IKEA showrooms. Although the images were taken in a public space, the resulting photographs feel completely intimate and in some cases, almost as though the viewer is intruding. Katy Wood is a fellow Arts Magnet alum who just completed her first year studying photography at MICA. Katy's digital work is what originally caught my eye, documenting her close friends in bright color with smears of light. Her photography has a beautiful innocent, feminine and thoughtful quality that I don't seem to find in the work of many young photographers today. So when she sent along these haunting black and whites, it became apparent that her talent is extremely versatile. Katy, the second you get a site up you better let me know!

She's the one who taught me the importance of light, and we've spent many hours drooling over Irving Penn's still lifes together. “When I’m with you, we’re alone” is a series I started actively working on once I began compiling my work from the past four years and found a distinct sense of loneliness within some of the images of my very close friends. This series explores feelings of alienation or isolation within social circles and settings, either experienced by the subject or myself.
