= signs

The first assignment for my Digital Imaging Color class deals with the idea of equivalence involving one particular color. Creating a mood or ambiance with that color, we can shoot whatever we want to. In trying to figure out which color I want to capture, I've found that every color already connotes so much within itself. Above are some images I feel capture a certain ambiance that works with the color in a beautiful way. The blue is Alina Rudya, the red is Anne Lass, and the peas are David Skyes.

SURFER BLOOD

Surfer Blood, out of West Palm Beach Florida, write pop rock songs that have a sense of familiarity, but are completely telling of where indie rock is today. Lead singer John Paul Pitt’s voice is actually pretty refreshing, not high pitched or soft, and only altered with the fact that it’s heavily reverbed. Although you can pretty much pinpoint every influence they’ve ever had, from old school Weezer to Pavement, they carry their own and they’re rockin. And it’s the drums and vocals that carry that. Check them out here.

MIA

If this is indeed a new MIA track, it's probably the best I've heard from her since Arular.

Animal Collective

My favorite track off Merriweather Post Pavilion gets a video filled with imitations of Where the Wild Things Are and colored eggs. Kind of sucks you into a technicolored ooz.
